HAZLEHURST, Miss. (WJTV) – A 16-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly shooting a 15-year-old girl with a shotgun in Hazlehurst.

Assistant Police Chief Tarrell Davis said the shooting happened on Maple Street around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27.

According to Davis, the victim was shot in the shoulder. She was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson for treatment. She’s expected to be okay.

Davis said an unidentified 16-year-old was arrested at the scene. He faces an aggravated assault charge.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
