JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The woman accused of causing the death of her one-year-old son appeared in court on Tuesday.

Yolanda Hunter was charge with capital murder and was denied bond.

Investigators said the child died after being severely beaten in December 2023. They said the child’s cause of death was a lacerated liver caused by blunt force trauma.

According to Captain Chakita Childs with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), the baby had bruises all over his body with some of those bruises being at least a week old.

“His face was bruised. His stomach area was beaten severely. The buttock area had different stages of bruising from being dark blue/purple to almost black,” Childs stated.

Hunter’s boyfriend, Herman Coleman, is also facing charges associated with the child’s death. An arrest warrant has been issued for Coleman, and police are searching for him.
