JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Mississippi residents may soon be able to purchase liquor and wine seven days out of the week rather than six.

State Rep. Brent Powell (R-District 59) said the House passed House Bill 329 on March 1. He said the bill will allow liquor stores to sell on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., if they choose to do so.

“It’s totally up to them. We’re also given the ability to the municipalities or political subdivisions that if they do not want the Sunday sales, they can do a referendum. We call it a reverse referendum, and they can vote to not allow it. So, it’s just basically we’re putting everything back down on the on the local level, state level,” Powell stated.

Powell said Bill 329 is now headed to the Senate for a final decision. If the bill is signed by the governor, it will go into effect on July 1, 2024.
