NATCHEZ, Miss. (WJTV) – A Natchez police officer discovered skeletal remains on Thursday after a driver led the officer to the remains.

The Natchez Democrat reported the officer conducted a traffic stop around 8:30 p.m. on Sgt. S. Prentiss Drive near Fatherland Road. The person driving the car allegedly told the officer that they knew where the remains could be found.

Investigators said the unidentified driver took the officer about 10 feet off he roadway, and the remains were discovered. The remains have been sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy and identification.

The incident is still under investigation.
