JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – On Tuesday, the Jackson City Council approved a six-year contract with Richard’s Disposal for garbage pickup.
The contract passed 4-3. Councilmembers Aaron Banks, Angelique Lee, Brian Grizzell, and Virgi Lindsey voted in favor of the contract. Councilmembers Kenneth Stokes, Ashby Foote and Vernon Hartley voted against the contract.
Members of the Jackson City Council voted on the proposal after amending the contract to remove the 45,000 carts.
In the original proposed contract, the city would pay the Richard’s Disposal $891,000 per month, which included the cost of purchasing and delivery of up to 45,000 carts to residents. However, residents were not required to get a cart.
The city’s emergency contract with Richard’s is set to expire on March 31, 2024.
