MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials announced Madison County lost $2.7 million in a cyber scam.
The Madison County Board of Supervisors was informed of a fraudulent financial cyber event on Tuesday, March 19. Officials said the scam resulted in $2,741,243.69 in funds being sent to a fraudulent vendor, who presented themselves as a current vendor.
The board notified law enforcement officials about the scam to launch a national and international investigation. Officials said the investigation is in its infancy.
According to Madison County officials, additional safety measures have been put into place to ensure the safety of taxpayer dollars. The County Administrator will announce the new controls during the next Board of Supervisors meeting in April.
