HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. — The two teenage suspects who were accused of firing shots at an officer on Monday in Holly Springs, Mississippi are now in custody.
According to reports, their mother turned them into the Holly Springs Police Department.

It all started when an officer attempted to stop a red Kia Forte during a traffic stop for driving erratically with no headlights or taillights. The vehicle was traveling on South Randolph Street.
The officer was able to make out the license plate and relayed that information to dispatch when the vehicle turned on West Van Dorn Avenue.
During the police pursuit, the suspects reportedly fired two shots at the officer’s patrol car.
There were no officers reported injured during this incident.
But Holly Springs Police Chief Darryl Bowens said that doesn’t change how dangerous the teens’ behavior was.
“The officer could have been injured, people that was on the highway at the time could have been injured because when you discharge a firearm, that bullet could go anywhere,” Bowens said. “And luckily, the officer wasn’t injured, we haven’t had any pedestrians or anybody that was on the road injured at the time.”
Later that day, the suspects were caught on a ring camera in the same area where the vehicle was found. When police arrived, the suspects ran on foot into the woods.

The police then turned to the media for help and got an unlikely response.
“The suspect’s mother saw the news clipping, so she said, ‘Well that kind of looks like my son,” Bowens said. “She decided to do the right thing which was come to the police department, report it to the detective and that’s why we’re here now.”
Police aren’t naming the suspects right now, but say that they are brothers.
“It was surprising for a parent to turn in they’re children, but she said, ‘well they committed the crime, then they have to come and face the consequences of their actions.’ That was very noble for her to turn in her sons,” Bowens said.
Police say the 18- and 17-year-old are currently being charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
Another suspect is expected to be charged as well. They will all three be facing additional charges.
