JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade called for people to put the guns down after three people were killed in Jackson on Thursday, April 4.

“From about 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., we had three homicides in the City of Jackson. That is problematic because it impacts every single person in this city, when you talk about three people losing their lives within an hour,” said Wade.

One man was killed and another was injured after police said 43-year-old Alejandro Contreras fired shots into a vehicle on State Street near Presto Lane. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident.

Another shooting led to the deaths of two people on Capitol Street in West Jackson.

“The ATF is here in Jackson boots on the ground to deal with specifically gun violence. The availability and accessibility of guns in our community is overwhelming,” said Wade.
