JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The woman accused of opening fire at a birthday party in Jackson appeared in court on Monday, April 8.
Zykia Winford, 19, was given a $400,000 bond.
The shooting happened on Easter (March 31) at Mary C. Jones Park. According to Jackson police, Winford got into a fight with one of the victims. She allegedly pulled a gun from her purse and began shooting.
Five people, including Winford, were injured in the shooting. One of the victims was an eight-year-old boy. His mother, Shaquan Harris, said her son was shot in the chest.
“He was in the space jump, playing during the time that the incident happened, and it was very hard to deal with my son. I had to hold my baby while he fight for, you know, fight for his life. He was scared. I can see the fear in my child’s eyes. I leave everything in the Lord’s hands. God takes care of everything. So, yes, God gonna take care of us. Everything is good,” Harris said.
