JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A former Jackson police officer has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting.
Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said 33-year-old Marcus Johnson was captured 25 miles outside of Monroe, Louisiana, on Wednesday, April 10.
Wade said Johnson was arrested after a chase involving the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), Warren County deputies and several law enforcement officers from Louisiana. The chase started on Interstate 20 in Mississippi and ended in Louisiana.
Johnson was wanted for the homicide that happened at Tapestry Northridge Apartments on Parkway Drive in Jackson early Tuesday morning.
The victim was identified as 25-year-old Carlos Collins. The Hinds County coroner said Collins had been shot multiple times.
According to Detective Tommie Brown, Johnson worked for the Jackson Police Department (JPD) for eight months in 2013. He was separated from JPD pending disciplinary actions leading up to his immediate termination. Brown said Johnson resigned just prior to his termination.
Johnson is being held at the Richland Parish Detention Center, awaiting extradition back to Jackson, Mississippi.
