LAUREL, Miss. (WHLT) – Laurel police arrested a man in connection to a fatal shooting and for the alleged kidnapping of a two-year-old.

The incident happened on Friday, April 12 at Shadowood Apartments on Old Amy Road.

Police said they responded to a call about a woman being shot at the location. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the female victim had been shot multiple times in the torso.

Investigators said they discovered a two-year-old had been taken from the scene.

While officers were rendering aid, they heard several gunshots and saw the suspect’s vehicle round the corner traveling in the officers’ direction. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and the child was recovered in good condition.

Laurel police said they located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The two victims were taken to the South Central Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) for treatment. The male victim was pronounced deceased.

The suspect, 29-year-old Deion Dobbins, was charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of kidnapping. He is expected to appear in Laurel Municipal Court this weekend.
