CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – Canton leaders are working to get a grip on crime after a 28-year-old man was killed.
Police said Temika Perry was shot near Clarence Court and Ricks Drive on Sunday, April 14 just before 11:30 p.m.
Perry was rushed to Merit Health but later died from a gunshot wound under his right arm.
Canton Police Chief Otha Brown said too many young people have access to weapons and something must be done.
“The shootings have got to stop these youngsters with guns. This young man that was deceased last night. He’s 28 years of age, but he’s still a young man. And when things like this take place, we’re losing the person who’s doing the shooting and the person who is deceased. So, we’re taking two people out of society, and this is really bad. It’s going to be bad. It’s bad for families to lose loved ones to being deceased and to families who loved ones to be incarcerated,” said Brown.
The police chief said his department is working closely with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to combat crime in the City of Canton.
