HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The man accused of killing a local community activist in 2022 asked the judge presiding over the case to recuse herself.

William “Polo” Edwards was arrested and charged in connection to the death of Better Men Society founder Robert Davis.

Edwards’ second trial has been set for July 29, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in Hinds County Circuit Court before Judge Eleanor Faye Peterson. He was denied bond by Peterson in October 2023 after a mistrial was declared in his case.

Edwards called Peterson’s conduct during last year’s trial egregious. According to court documents, Edwards said online memes of Peterson’s facial expressions during the first trial show that she cannot be impartial. He also believes Peterson cannot be impartial due to her presiding over two previous cases where Edwards was also the defendant.

Edwards is accused of killing Davis inside Shadow Robinson’s Clinton home on May 1, 2022.

Edwards was arrested in connection to the case after a chase in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 3, 2022. He was indicted for murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in Hinds County. Edwards pled not guilty.
