JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A woman was shot and killed on Jefferson Street in Jackson.

The shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 on Jefferson Street.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said Capitol police responded to the scene and discovered the victim who died from an apparent gunshot wound.

The Hinds County coroner identified the victim as 34-year-old Fernanda Marie Gomez.

The investigation is ongoing.
