One injured in Monroe County officer-involved shooting

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One person was injured during an officer-involved shooting in Monroe County.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) responded to the incident that occurred on Monday, April 29.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said Monroe County deputies were responding to a call for service regarding a disturbance. When deputies arrived at the location, Martin said they encountered the suspect who presented a knife at the deputies.

According to Martin, the deputies fired shots and struck the suspect. The unidentified person was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The deputies did not receive any serious physical injuries.

MBI agents will investigate the incident and share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
