MENDENHALL, Miss. (WJTV) – Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at a Mississippi police department.
Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said the shooting occurred in Mendenhall on Thursday, May 2.
According to Martin, an officer was booking a suspect on domestic violence charges at the police station when an altercation occurred between the suspect and the officer.
During the altercation, Martin said the officer discharged his weapon and shot the suspect. The officer received minor injuries, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the officer-involved shooting. They will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
