JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police arrested a suspect after a shooting at an apartment complex.

The shooting happened in the 300 block of Raymond Road on Wednesday, May 8.

Detective Tommie Brown said a fight between the suspect, Barnett Evans, and the victim led to the shooting. The victim was shot in the head, and Evans fled the scene.

According to Brown, Evans was reported to be at a home in the 400 block of Cooper Road. When police arrived, he was not at the location.

Police were able to contact Evans by phone, and Brown said the hostage negotiator was able to convince him to surrender. Evans was located at a home in the 200 block of Treehaven Drive, and he was arrested.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
