FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) – There’s plenty to do in the City of Flowood. If you’re looking for a new place to go for a run or somewhere to take the kids to play, Flowood has you covered.

The Flowood Nature Park has been around for about 15 years. It’s 40 acres off of Flowood Drive and adjacent to Flowood Elementary.

“It’s totally to get folks an opportunity to get in nature. It’s got walking trails, a mile loop walking trail with a lake. It’s connected to the rest of our bypass along Wirtz Road and Clover Drive and Flowood,” said Alderman Seth Robbins, Ward 4.

Flowood also has another park just down the road. Winners Circle Park is a fantastic play area for kids.

We’re heading into the summer movie season, and Flowood’s movie theater, Legacy Theaters Parkway, recently reopened.

“We love the movies. And so, you know, now that we’ve got something that’s close, we can come back and enjoy that because there’s nothing like being in there with a surround sound, and, you know, watching it at home on streaming is fine, but man being in the actual theater…that’s a lot of fun,” said Bryce Hopkins, a patron.

There are new upgrades at the movie theater.

“All of our auditoriums have brand new seats and brand new carpeting, and all of them are all fully reclining seats actually made in Tupelo, Mississippi,” said Dylan Jones, the general manger of Legacy Theaters Parkway.

The city is also home to the Flowood Antique Flea Market. For the last 16 years or so, it’s been filled with just about anything you can think of.

“They basically have everything you can think of here from jewelry, soap, music, stuff, everything, furniture. Whatever my little heart desires,” said Michele Bearden, a shopper.

The market is more than 60,000 square-feet of antiques, collectibles, art, old video games, coins, antique clocks, soaps and more.

It only costs $1.00 to get in, and it’s well worth it, even if only to walk the booths and look around. You never know what you might find. The market is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

If you’re looking to play a few rounds of golf when you’re in the Flowood area, look no further than The Refuge.

The Refuge golf course at the Sheraton Hotel has become the golf go-to for people in the metro. The course was recently renovated in 2021. The new layout is more player-friendly with multiple tees ranging from 4,000 to more than 7,000 yards.

It’s suitable for players of every skill level from old to young and beginner to professional.

“It’s regulation 18-hole golf course. We have a very active tournament program, everything from high school collegiate events to fundraisers to corporate events. So, there’s always a, you know, very active programs, always something good going on here at The Refuge,” said Sean Racki, director of golf.

One of the newest restaurants in Flowood is the Basil’s/Rooster’s combo that recently opened off of Airport Road.

Rooster’s is famous for its crispy chicken, and it also has a nice cheeseburger. Basil’s has several kinds of pizzas, as well as the panini and salad menu.

“The customer base here in Fleetwood really has been great. We’ve got a strong brand. We’ve been a Jackson area since 1984, and we knew it’d be a crazy opening. And it has been. You know, you know, like I said, we’ve been around a while. People like our food and we’ve done a lot with the staff that we have. They’ve done a great job. They’re committed. You know, it’s more of a family environment here,” said Nathan Glenn, the owner.
