RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Damaged homes, downed power lines and fallen trees were the result of severe storms that swept through parts of Central Mississippi.
Crews have been working since daybreak to remove fallen tree limbs from yards and roadways.
“We’ve been pretty busy. We’ve received a bunch of calls this morning throughout the metro area, a lot in Brandon, especially with the high winds from last night. And this is actually the second time that we’ve been over here for a three with the past storms within, you know, the last month or two,” said Ty Hollingsworth, the owner of Hollingsworth Land Clearing.
Naomi Taylor, who lives in Pearl, said in the past year, she’s had four trees cause damage to her home.
“The past one year, we had a tree fall on our house right through our carport. Yeah, we just finished building that back,” she said.
As a result of downed power lines, some streets were blocked off with barricades.
Timothy Horton and Kelvin Myers said they received several calls following the storms.
“I mean, I hate everybody going through what they go through. Some people aren’t going to even go to work today. But, oh, you know what? We are here today trying to help everyone before they be able to go back to work and get to where they got to go,” said Myers, an employee with Horton Lawn Services.
