RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A new lawsuit has been filed against a member of the Rankin County ‘Goon Squad.’

The ‘Goon Squad’ is a group of former Rankin County deputies and a Richland police officer who were convicted and sentenced for the torture of two Black men in January 2023.

The lawsuit alleged excessive force against a man being held in the Rankin County Detention Center. Brett McAlpin, employee Ricky Davis and six unidentified defendants were named in the lawsuit.

According to court documents, Christopher Mack said the incident happened after he was arrested by Pearl police in May 2021. He claimed he was beaten for 45 minutes after he wouldn’t say anything to the officers.

McAlpin was sentenced to 27.25 years in prison on federal charges and 15 years on state charges earlier this year in connection to the case that happened in January 2023.
