HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in Hattiesburg.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said an agent and task force officer (TFO) were transporting two suspects to the federal courthouse on Monday, June 3. During the transfer, Martin said a fight occurred between the agent and one of the suspects. The agent was injured during the fight.

According to Martin, the TFO shot the suspect. Both the agent and the suspect were transported to a local hospital.

Hattiesburg police closed part of West Pine Street on Monday while the investigation was underway. MBI agents will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
