FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) – One person was killed during an officer-involved shooting at a Flowood apartment complex.

The shooting happened at Shadow Lake Apartments on Park Circle Drive on Tuesday, June 4.

Flowood police said officers were given a description of a suspicious man behind a building. Officials with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the suspect was attempting to break into apartments. When officers encountered the man, they said he ran away.

After officers chased the suspect, police said he pointed a gun toward the officers, and police fired at him. The man died from his injuries. He was identified as 27-year-old Preston Banks.

Police said no officers were injured during the incident. The shooting will be investigated by agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI). They will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
