MARION COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A 14-year-old in Marion County is fighting for his life after an 4-wheeler accident.
The family of Brody Wages said he suffered a severe brain injury after the accident on May 24.
“He broke both collarbones, punctured a lung, broke three ribs, has swelling on the brain and just fractures, little fractures everywhere,” said his father, David Wages.
The teen has been sedated at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. His father and grandmother have been at his bedside every step of the way.
“He’s not only my son, he’s my best friend. Seeing him lay there helpless, I don’t wish that on no father. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” said Wages.
Doctors are concerned with a bleed on Brody’s brain. He was also running a high fever. However, Brody’s family said he’s slowly progressing, and he’s nearly able to breathe on his own. The family said Brody also briefly opened his eyes.
“I didn’t do anything but cry. They were happy tears, but I know it’s another step from him waking up and you know, he’s squeezing my hand, too,” said Wages.
Brody still has a long way to go, but his family remains hopeful.
“God is answering prayers right now, and I just need all the prayers I can get,” said Wages.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help with Brody’s medical expenses.
