HAHZLEHURST, Miss. (WJTV) – Hazlehurst police are investigating after one woman was killed and another woman was injured during a shooting.

Police said the shooting happened around 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 on Stowell Street.

According to investigators, 22-year-old Elexus Joiner was shot multiple times and died at a hospital in Copiah County. The second victim, Clarissa Belton, was airlifted to the University for Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson for treatment. She’s in stable condition.

Police said the suspect, 32-year-old Fredrequez Gary, was arrested early Friday morning after he was questioned by investigators. He was charged with murder.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a domestic-related dispute.
