WAYNE COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Waynesboro police made a second arrest in the shooting death of a 24-year-old Alabama man.

Richard Mayfield, 24, was arrested on Tuesday, July 2. Waynesboro police said Richard Mayfield has been charged with accessory after the fact, and his bond was set at $500,000.

Investigators said Richard Mayfield is the cousin of the first suspect, Jaylen Mayfield, who has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of Brandon Michael Cartwright. Jaylen Mayfield received a $1 million bond.

The shooting happened outside the High Noon Lounge in Waynesboro on Saturday, June 29.

Cartwright’s family was in the courtroom during the hearings for both suspects.

“When we were in there with the killer, that was hard. I’m not gonna lie to you. I studied that man from top to bottom. I felt hatred, and I know God says you should never hate. But I felt hatred that I felt. I can’t even explain how I felt. But it was hatred,” said Teresa Cooper, Cartwright’s mother.

Waynesboro police said they do not expect any more arrests to be made in the case. Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Waynesboro Police Department.
