Hattiesburg man charged with making bomb threat against Smith County business

SMITH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A Hattiesburg man was arrested for allegedly making a bomb threat against a Smith County business.

Smith County deputies said the bomb threat was reported at Georgia Pacific Plywood, located just outside of Taylorsville, on Friday, July 5. They said the threat was received via text message and prompted the evacuation of the employees.

During an investigation, deputies said they arrested 27-year-old Tobias Smith, of Hattiesburg, at the scene. He was charged with one count of terroristic threats and is being held at the Smith County Jail. Smith’s bond hearing is pending.

Before Georgia Pacific employees returned to work, bomb dogs searched the site for explosive chemicals.
