JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Authorities said a man has been arrested in connection to the kidnapping of a 7-month-old girl, who was later found safe.
Detective Tommie Brown, with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), said 44-year-old James Wilson has been charged with auto theft and kidnapping.
According to Brown, Wilson was arrested by Capitol police at the Olive Tree Hotel in Jackson. During a perp walk on Monday, Wilson denied he committed the crime. He has been transported to the Hinds County Detention Center.
JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police released surveillance pictures of the man wanted in connection to the kidnapping of a 7-month-old girl, who was later found safe.
Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the baby was left in a running car by her mother at the Shell gas station on Beasley Road on Saturday, July 6. He said a man, who was wearing a medical mask, took the vehicle while the mother was inside the gas station.
The vehicle was found abandoned outside Brent’s Drugs in the Fondren neighborhood by Capitol police shortly after it was taken. The child was still inside, and the vehicle was still running. The baby, who was unharmed, was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Police are still searching for the older male suspect.
Wade said the Amber Alert process was initiated with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), but the child was found safe before the alert was issued. The police chief said certain criteria has to be met for an Amber Alert.
Wade said investigators are discussing possible charges against the child’s mother with the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office.
