JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Former President Donald Trump appeared to be the target of an assassination attempt as he spoke during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, law enforcement officials said. The former president, his ear covered in blood, was quickly pulled away by Secret Service agents and his campaign said he was “fine.”
Mississippi leaders expressed their concerns for Trump after the shooting occurred.
“Prayers for President Trump. Glad he was able to walk away,” said U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).
“I urge you all to join me in praying for President Trump,” said U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.).
“Prayers for President Trump,” said U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly (R-Miss.).
“There is no room in American democracy for political violence. I am grateful for law enforcement’s fast response to this incident. I am glad the former President is safe, and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved,” said U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.).
“Haley and I ask you to join us in praying for President Trump,” said U.S. Rep. Michael Guest (R-Miss.).
“Suzette and I are praying for President Trump. Thank you to the first responders and to secret service for their quick action,” said U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell (R-Miss.).
“Pray for President Donald Trump! Pray for the Trump family! Pray for the attendees at the rally! And please… Pray for America! God’s protection and grace, along with the vigilance of patriots, is the only shield against evil,” said Gov. Tate Reeves (R-Miss.).
“This is my President. Please pray for him. This is an attack on the country and every citizen’s right to free and fair elections,” said Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann (R-Miss.).
