VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – Vicksburg was recognized as one of the Top 15 Best Historical Small Towns in the United States by Newsweek’s Reader’s Choice Awards.
“We are so excited for Vicksburg to be recognized as one of the best historical small towns in the nation,” said Laura Beth Strickland, Visit Vicksburg Executive Director. “Vicksburg, Mississippi is full of history going back hundreds of years. Next year the city will celebrate its bicentennial anniversary of its incorporation, and we are looking forward to sharing many untold stories as we celebrate all year long. We are so excited for this opportunity to be featured among these other amazing historical cities in Newsweek.”
From stately homes to the Civil War battlegrounds, visitors can experience many of Vicksburg’s historical assets. One of the most famous battles to be fought in the town was the Siege of Vicksburg, the final major military action in the Vicksburg campaign of the American Civil War.
Visitors can go to the parks, battlegrounds, and monuments throughout Vicksburg that are dedicated to the famous battle including the Vicksburg National Military Park.
