Officer killed, two others injured in Summit shooting

SUMMIT, Miss. (WJTV) – A police officer was killed and two others were injured after an officer-involved shooting in Summit.

The shooting happened during a checkpoint near West Railroad Avenue in Summit on Thursday, August 8. According to officials with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), a vehicle approached, and a passenger shot a Summit officer.

The Enterprise Journal reported Summit Officer Troy Floyd was killed. Officials said McComb officers Tyler Harvey and Joey Roberts responded to the scene and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. The two McComb officers received non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities said the suspect was also killed during the shooting.

The shooting is under investigation by agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI).

Please also pray for a quick recovery for Officers Harvey and Roberts, ” said Gov. Tate Reeves (R-Miss.). “Our men and women of law enforcement represent the very best of Mississippi. All of Mississippi stands with them as we honor and mourn this hero who has been taken from us too soon.”
