JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – On Friday, Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) signed a bill that aims to take some stress off of Mississippi’s military families.

Reeves signed House Bill 1341, which allows for the children of active duty military members to enroll into any school of their choice.

“Men and women who are training, for instance, in NAS Meridian, oftentimes are moving from literally thousands of miles away. And so, there’s a lot of stress involved in that. There’s a lot of sacrifices made by those families. And so, what this bill will allow is for them to be able to choose the best school for their kids, which may vary from one family to the next, but it takes one little bit of a burden off of whatever the challenges that exist from that move into a new community,” the governor said.

The students would be allowed to transfer schools once per year. The school districts will not be required to provide transportation to these students.
