JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson couple said they’ve been struggling for more than four months after losing their only vehicle to severe road damage.
“It makes me feel real bad because I’m sick. I don’t have no way to the doctor. It’s just rough on me and my husband right now,” said Mary Jackson.
The couple said they totaled their vehicle after running into a pothole along Terry Road. A tire burst from the impact, causing them to lose control and crash in to a telephone pole.
Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, said the city has been fighting with JXN Water over who should be held responsible and pay for the damages.
“People cannot drive to go to the zoo, to go to the medical center because of the holes. Some say they’re coming from the sewer lines. Whose ever responsibility it is to make the repairs, they should do it and grow up. Stop fussing and fighting with each other over nonsense. The citizens are the ones who’s suffering,” Stokes said.
The councilman said the couple were told by Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba at the last City Council meeting that he would be willing to help assess the situation. They couple said they’ve yet to hear back from the mayor, even after reaching out.
WJTV 12 News reached out to the mayor and JXN Water for a response. As of Monday, August 12, we have not heard back.
