Laurel shooting suspect dies during crash: police

LAUREL, Miss. (WHLT) – Laurel police said a shooting suspect died during a crash.

Police said they responded to a shooting at South Park Village apartments around 11:58 p.m. on Monday, August 26. Investigators said the suspect fired 20 rounds from a handgun in the area. No injuries were reported.

Just after midnight, police were notified by Jones County deputies of a crash at the intersection of Luther Hill Road and Glade Paulding Road.

According to the Jones County Fire Council, the vehicle left the road and struck a tree. The driver died during the crash.

Police said a handgun of the same caliber used in the shooting was recovered from the wrecked vehicle. The identity of the suspect is being withheld by police at this time.
