RICHLAND, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies arrested a man after a standoff in Richland.

Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant on James Martin, 24, of Brandon, just before 10:00 a.m. at a home on Sundance Circle on Tuesday, August 27. Martin was wanted for cyberstalking.

According to Burnell, Martin failed to comply with verbal commands and barricaded himself inside of the home after threatening to use the firearms inside. The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and the Richland Police Department Special Response Team responded to the location, along with crisis negotiators.

Within the following hour, attempts were made to contact Martin by phone. Just before 11:00 a.m., Burnell said Martin surrendered to officers at the scene and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Rankin County Jail.

Martin could face additional charges due to the standoff.
