JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Jackson released a new report on Thalia Mara Hall after early microbial activity was discovered inside the facility.

In early August, the city was forced to close Thalia Mara Hall after the growth was discovered following a recent malfunction with the HVAC controller in the facility.

The city hired the Center for Toxicology & Environmental Health (CTEH) to investigate, perform laboratory analyses, and assess all substances.

The “Indoor Air Quality Assessment” report recommended the repair of the HVAC system and the removal of some carpeting. It also recommended the cleaning of carpets, hard surfaces, floors and soft upholstery.

A final air quality clearance survey was also requested.

City leaders said their committed to restoring Thalia Mara Hall, and they’re working to secure funding for the project. The city recently received $1.5 million from the state.

The major events at Thalia Mara Hall have been moved to the Mississippi Coliseum during the closure. The city plans to reopen Thalia Mara Hall when the issues have been alleviated. There is no current timeframe for the repairs.
