Mississippi man killed in Texas helicopter crash

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson, Mississippi, man was killed during a helicopter crash in Texas.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said they responded to the crash near County Road 2048 in Newton County on Friday, August 23.

They were notified just before 1:30 p.m. that the helicopter, which was used for agricultural services, crashed for unknown reasons as it was nearing its fuel truck.

The pilot, who was identified as 51-year-old Jason Wimberly, of Jackson, Mississippi, died from his injuries. A person standing next to the fuel truck was injured when they were struck by the helicopter’s landing skids, troopers said. The person was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified and will conduct an investigation.
