More than 2,000 arrested in Jackson under Operation Unified

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Law enforcement agencies are working to crack down on crimes across the City of Jackson with Operation Unified.

According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), authorities have seized more than 400 firearms, including several with illegal modifications, as of Wednesday, August 29. They also have confiscated more than $360,000, recovered nearly 200 pounds of narcotics and made more than 2,000 arrests.

Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) announced Operation Unified in early 2024.

Reeves said Operation Unified is the result of coordinated efforts between state, local and federal law enforcement agencies. The operation involves surging those law enforcement resources to the capital city.

Operation Unified started in mid-January 2024. The goal is to get drug traffickers and violent criminals off of the streets of Jackson.

Operation Unified includes the following law enforcement agencies:

  • Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Narcotics
  • Capitol Police
  • Office of Homeland Security
  • Jackson Police Department
  • Hinds County District Attorney
  • Hinds County Sheriff’s Office
  • Mississippi Department of Corrections
  • FBI
  • DEA
  • ATF
  • U.S. Attorney’s Office
