JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A sold-out golf tournament in Jackson helped raise funds that will go toward teaching the game of golf and the game of life.

The City of Jackson hosted the 2024 Mayor’s Cup at the Pete Brown Golf Course on Friday, August 30.

“I’m happy to see people having a good time enjoying themselves in the city. But as we have said before, more importantly that the money that is raised from this event will go towards First Tee, which is not only teaching young people the game of golf, but teaching them life lessons along with that. And so, we’re happy to see people out. We’re happy to see the course looking better than it’s ever looked before,” said Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba.

Besides the friendly competition, many took part in the event to support the capital city.

“It’s important that we support things like this in Jackson, because we need to keep our city beautiful. We need to let people know that our city has things to offer,” said Tina King Clay, a participant in the tournament.

Money raised from the event will be donated to First Tee of Central Mississippi, the Grove Park Junior Golf Clinic golf programs and course improvements.
