JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – JTRAN operations were still suspended on Thursday, September 5 due to the union workers’ strike.

On Wednesday, the local Amalgamated Transit Union turned down the proposal given to them. They said their demands are not being met by MV Transportation, which has managed the City of Jackson’s fixed route and paratransit services since January 2024.

Shanitha Nichols, a driver operator for JTRAN, said their concerns are valid. She hopes for a resolution soon.

“It is a very unfortunate situation. I do feel very disheartening for those who are seeking and need and do need transport. As you know, we all do at times, but we’re really hoping that they will stand with us and persevere through it. And I hope that we can get things back on track shortly,” Nichols said.

Workers said they’re striking against tense work conditions, unfair work practices and overall poor management.
