Man rescued after train derails in Vicksburg

VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – A man was rescued after a train derailed in Vicksburg.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 5.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said firefighters responded to a distress call at the junction of Mulberry Street and Oak Street. When firefighters arrived at the location, they found a 50-year-old man trapped under a rail cart.

Stamps said firefighters worked to extricate the man. Once he was freed, the man was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson for urgent medical attention.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
