Juvenile arrested for threat to Rankin County middle school

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies arrested a juvenile in connection to an electronic threat against Northwest Rankin Middle School.

On Monday, September 9, investigators said a student at the middle school received a text message related a threat of mass violence to be perpetrated on school grounds. They said neither school officials nor any law enforcement agency was contacted regarding the treat.

School officials were alerted to the existence of the threat on Tuesday, September 10 and alerted the Safety & Security Division of the Rankin County School District and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators were able to identify and arrest a juvenile suspect in connection to the incident. The unidentified juvenile was charged with making of terroristic threats and transported to the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Facility in Pelahatchie.

The investigation is ongoing.


RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County authorities are investigating an electronic threat that was sent to Northwest Rankin Middle School.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the threat was received on Tuesday, September 10.

Bailey said deputies are working with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to evaluate leads and examine information and evidence related to this situation.

Northwest Rankin Middle School, Northwest Rankin Elementary School and Northwest Rankin High School are currently in controlled building movement with no outside activities. Extra law enforcement will be present on all three campuses, according to Bailey.
