BILOXI, Miss. (WKRG) — It’s a busy morning in Biloxi. Homeowners are doing last-minute preparations as the impacts of Francine are gradually being felt around coastal Mississippi.

We’re finally seeing some rain that’s grown since dawn from a mist to something where we could see some accumulation. People are in a hurry to get ready.

I stopped by John Henry Beck Park. it’s one of a handful of sites in the city of Biloxi that’s still open today for people to get their own sandbags.

People are wondering how bad conditions could get and whether they need to get to higher ground. They still have time.

A small group of people was loading up on sandbags, not for their homes but for anyone who might need some protection.

“I put on the Facebook sandbags and it’s for people who really can’t get around so they can secure their homes and they don’t have to run from the storm, just trying to be a good person,” said Kendall Bates.

The storm could dump a lot of rain on coastal Mississippi so the sandbags can help keep those floodwaters at bay. For now, it’s just waiting to see how much worse the impact of the tropical conditions will get.
