JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson neighbors are preparing for Hurricane Francine.
Many made a stop on Michael Avalon Street to pickup sandbags on Wednesday. One business owner said he helped prepare about 70 bags for some of his customers.
Jeffery Parker, who lives in Jackson, said people should recognized that the weather is uncontrollable, and they should prepare accordingly.
“I think the biggest thing when it comes to this weather is looking back at Katrina. I think for those in my generation, that was the first time we have the kind of experience of this with that weather. It can be for those with an older generation. They’ve seen many of this before. So, I think what’s important is to recognize that the weather that’s coming is real. Now, whether or not it’s going to be the worst thing or not, it’s only matter. You just got to be prepared for it. You never really know what tomorrow may hold, so you’re going to have to prepare ahead of time,” he said.
Sandbags will be available until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
There will be a temporary shelter at the Jackson Police Department (JPD) Training Academy at 3000 St. Charles Street.
Due to the hurricane, the City of Jackson offices will have a delayed start on Thursday.
