HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – A 16-year-old pled guilty to second-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of a Southern Miss football player.
The Hattiesburg American reported Nytavion Shaw, of Laurel, pled guilty on Tuesday, October 1. He will be sentenced at a later date and could face 20-40 years in prison.
Three other teenagers were previously arrested in connection to the death of 21-year-old Marcus “MJ” Daniels, Jr.
Hattiesburg police said Orlando May, 18, of Hattiesburg; Allen Gardner, 17, of Houston, Texas; and Samir Green, 16, of Hattiesburg; were denied bond on the capital murder charges. They each received a $100,000 bond on the attempted armed carjacking charges.
The suspects are accused of killing Daniels at Ivy Row Apartments on Tuesday, June 11. Hattiesburg police said the victim was discovered inside a vehicle at the location.

McDaniels, who was a senior, was a cornerback on the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) football team. He was on the Ole Miss football team in 2021 and 2022. He attended high school at George County High School.
