MADISON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Madison community showed up in pink on Friday to remember the eight-year-old girl who died after being hit by a school bus.
Pink was the favorite color of Jeanelle Fredericks. Many gathered along Highway 51 at Cobblestone Drive to remember the young girl. She was described as a bubbly, joyful girl.
The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. on Cobblestone Drive at Rockwood Drive in Madison on Wednesday, October 2. Fredericks was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in critical condition and died from her injuries.
Mary Helen Abel, who lined up to honor Fredericks on Friday, said it was important for her to bring her son and commemorate his fellow student.
“It says a lot about our community, that we show up, that even those who didn’t even know her, that whose kids were not even in the same grade or same class show up,” said Abel.
A meal train has been set up to help Fredericks’ family.
