HOLMES COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Three people were killed and eight people were injured during a trail ride shooting in Holmes County.
The shooting occurred around midnight on Saturday, October 19 on Highway 17 North about five miles outside of the City of Lexington.
Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said several people went on a trail ride after Holmes County Consolidated School’s homecoming. He said an argument took place between some young men before the shooting happened.
The three victims who were killed were identified as 25-year-old Martel Gibson, of Durant; 19-year-old Shundra Chestnut, of Kosciusko; and 19-year-old John Jenkins, of Durant.
According to March, some of the injured victims were airlifted to a hospital in Jackson, and the others were transported by ambulances.
The sheriff said deputies are searching for the suspects in connection to this shooting, and agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are assisting with the case.
