LEAKE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Leake County deputies are investigating after a deer hunter found human remains.

Leake County Sheriff Randy Atkinson said the remains were located on private property on Midway Road on Sunday, October 20.

When deputies arrived at the location, they discovered a mostly intact human body. They were not able to identify the remains due to the state of decomposition.

The Leake County Coroner’s Office collected the body and will transport it to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

This is currently a death investigation.
