JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A recent report by State Auditor Shad White (R-Miss.) revealed millions of misspent funds by agencies across the state.
White said Project Momentum identified opportunities that could save taxpayers more than $335 million in fiscal savings. The report focuses on 13 state agencies, including the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), the Division of Medicaid, and the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).
White said his goal is to improve the government’s efficiency by eliminating unneeded services.
“One of the good things about doing this report is that we were able to learn a lot from these national experts on how they approach an agency and how they identify waste, how they dig into these problems. So, we took extensive notes while we’re working alongside these folks, and we’re going to apply their same methodologies to a bunch of different state agencies. I hope over the course, the next three or four years,” he said.
White said his office will look into smaller agencies, such as the Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), moving forward.
