FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) – Flowood police said a suspect was hospitalized after he tried to carjack a woman.

Officers responded to a disturbance call at a convenience store on Lakeland Drive just after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30.

When officers arrived at the location, they saw the suspect run to the parking lot of the Applebee’s restaurant. Investigators said the suspect, 28-year-old Elias Ovilio Chox-chay, tried to carjack a woman who was leaving the parking lot.

Police said the woman drove away in her vehicle while Chox-chay was attempting to get in the driver’s seat, and he was thrown from the vehicle.

Chox-chay was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) with serious injuries. Police said he will be taken into custody once he’s been released from the hospital.
