JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – An investigation is underway after a man was discovered dead while at the Amite County Jail.

The family of Trumaine White, 41, said he was found dead earlier this month while in the custody of Amite County law enforcement.

“We are developing information that we believe is very concerning. I can’t make further comment beyond that,” said Bobby DiCello, the attorney for White’s family.

Officials with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) said agents are investigating the incident, and the case remains an open and ongoing investigation.

“How does a man tossing a bag out of his car by a tire store end up dead and in jail? That’s a, that’s a stretch,” said DiCello.

WJTV 12 News reached out to the Amite County Sheriff’s Office about White’s death. As of publication, we have not heard back.
